Marcelino takes his campus to Villaviciosa

The 2022 edition of 'PromiseSoccer by Marcelino' was held from 3 to 9 July, with a high-performance methodology for its 100 attendees

Waiting for his next professional challenge, Marcelino García Toral does not miss the opportunity to remain involved in football-related projects. A good example is the high-performance sports campus ‘PromiseSoccer by Marcelino’, which took place in Villaviciosa from July 3 to 9. The target was to transfer the methodology of the Asturian coach’s coaching staff to the young participants on campus. A week of preseason was simulated with the adaptations corresponding to the different ages of the attendees, who reached a hundred. A team of 12 people took care of the management.

The Nuevo Villazón and Les Caleyes fields hosted the days of an event born in 2015 and that has been held in different places in Spain. This year the organization chose Villaviciosa, a town from which the renowned coach was named Favorite Son a few months ago.

Pleasant talk in ‘El Comercio’

During the campus, the Asturian coach gave an interview to ‘El Comercio’, a well-known newspaper published in Gijón. The conversation was front cover in the July 4th print edition.

“I will wait for that attractive, exciting project to emerge, that fills us all to face it with the utmost optimism”, commented Marcelino in reference to his future plans. He acknowledged that he is open to many options, including the possibility of working in foreign leagues, and recalled his recent stage in Bilbao: “Our experience with Athletic was wonderful. A squad with which we acquired a tremendous level of trust, both personally and professionally”.

There was also room to analyze the situation of his beloved Sporting, which has recently changed ownership. He trusts that the new project will be consolidated and launched a reflection on the work with the quarry: “We must try to do things well and generate that favorable environment so that these children are trained and grow, and have the pride and ambition to play at Sporting.”

Just finished campus, Marcelino was so happy after one week of work.
