Marcelino García Toral

Marcelino stars in a session at the III International Forum organised by Expansión

The manager was one of the requested speakers on the closing day of the contest in Alcalá de Henares

Under the title “Football and business: exploring new frontiers of economic growth”, Marcelino García Toral participated in a session within the International Forum set up by Expansión, a benchmark event that celebrated its third edition. The Asturian coach highlighted the evolution in the physical preparation and training of footballers since the beginning of the century. A development marked by the contribution of data and different technologies: “We try to have as much data as possible in terms of intensity and volume. From the physical point of view, we check all kinds of efforts to obtain maximum performance.” The contributions of the Asturian coach, with extensive experience in top-level football, enriched a conversation in which he was accompanied by Esteban Granero (CSO in Best of You and Founder and CEO of Olocip), Patricia Rodríguez (General Manager of Granada CF ), Jaume Roures (founding partner of Mediapro) and Javier Tebas (president of LaLiga). The III International Forum brought together many relevant figures from different fields for two days. King Felipe VI presided over the inauguration of an event held at the Alcalá de Henares Parador.

“We try to avoid the mere accumulation of data. We adapt this data to our work methodology and to the idea of the game that we try to express”, pointed out Marcelino, who considers that they are the perfect complement to the traditional videos. In this sense, he summed up the importance of the data very precisely: “Given the equality that exists in today’s football, the smallest details are what decide the final result.”
