Villarreal CF have paid tribute to Marcelino García Toral by incorporating the Asturian coach into the club’s Passeig Groc, the hall of fame located at the Estadio de la Cerámica and reserved for the most important figures in Villarreal’s history.
The recognition comes after an extraordinary spell for Marcelino at the helm of the Yellow Submarine. The Asturian manager left Villarreal as the coach with the most matches managed and the most victories in the club’s history, consolidating a legacy defined by competitive growth and stability at the highest level of Spanish football.
During his two spells in charge of Villarreal, Marcelino achieved historic milestones such as promotion to LaLiga in 2013, several European qualifications and back-to-back qualification for the UEFA Champions League, something that had never previously been achieved in the club’s history. Added to this are a Europa League semi-final and a Copa del Rey semi-final, as well as a recent campaign in which the team achieved historic records for points, victories and goals.
The ceremony at La Cerámica will be attend by president Fernando Roig and CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles, while Villarreal supporters also showed their affection for Marcelino during an emotional tribute. The coach admitted he felt “eternally grateful” for a recognition that, beyond the results, symbolises the relationship built over many years with the club and its people.
Marcelino’s presence on the Passeig Groc definitively confirms his impact on Villarreal CF. A tribute reserved for those who have played a decisive role in shaping the history and identity of the Yellow Submarine.
