Marcelino now takes his place on Villarreal CF’s Passeig Groc

The Asturian is a legend of the Yellow Submarine.

Villarreal CF paid tribute to Marcelino García Toral by incorporating the Asturian coach into the club’s Passeig Groc at the Estadio de la Cerámica, an honour reserved for the most important figures in the history of the Yellow Submarine.

The ceremony, held in a particularly emotional atmosphere, recognised Marcelino’s extraordinary contribution to Villarreal CF, where he left an unforgettable mark both on and off the pitch. The coach received the affection of the supporters and the club’s directors in a tribute that symbolised the strong bond built over the years between Marcelino, Villarreal and its people.

Marcelino’s inclusion on the Passeig Groc comes after a historic spell at the club. During his two periods in charge of Villarreal, the Asturian manager guided the team to a new competitive dimension, achieving milestones such as promotion to LaLiga, several European qualifications and back-to-back qualification for the UEFA Champions League, something unprecedented in the club’s history.

In addition, Marcelino ended his time at Villarreal as the manager with the most matches overseen and the most victories in the club’s history, consolidating a legacy defined by consistency, ambition and the team’s constant growth. Under his leadership, the Yellow Submarine achieved some of the best records in their LaLiga history, reaching unprecedented figures for points, wins and goals.

Marcelino’s tile on the Passeig Groc represents far more than sporting recognition. It symbolises the respect and admiration for a figure who played a decisive role in Villarreal CF’s growth and who leaves a permanent mark on the memory of the club and its supporters.
