Camavinga’s new role under Marcelino’s scrutiny

In an article published in 'El País', the coach analyses the change of position of the French international and his importance for Real Madrid's performance.

Marcelino analysed the progression and qualities of Eduardo Camavinga in an article by David Álvarez for ‘El País’ (published in both the online and print editions). Under the title ‘From microwave to Swiss Army Knife’,  ‘De microondas a navaja suiza’, the text delved into the evolution of the French player in recent months. A trajectory marked by Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to bring Camavinga in at left-back for Real Madrid.

“The adaptation of this boy to this position is praiseworthy,” said Marcelino. “He has shown great footballing ability with a very high performance at full-back. He has responded perfectly”. The piece, written in the run-up to the Champions League semi-final second leg against Manchester City, also featured statements from Carlo Ancelotti and Luka Modric.

The Asturian coach emphasised his attacking qualities to justify the Italian coach’s choice in a position -left-back- for which nobody was counting on Eduardo: “In terms of creation and depth, in terms of possibilities of playing in that intermediate area, Camavinga is the most gifted”. García Toral is very clear about the potential of the young Frenchman: “With that versatility and that very high performance, we are looking at an extraordinary player project”.
