Marcelino García Toral

A recognition for his work at Valencia

Marcelino was honored by the program 'Veus Fé-Cé' in recognition of his work from 2017 to 2019. The coach had an extensive conversation with the presenter about his professional career.

“All the recognitions fill me with satisfaction. You are remembering me and I am very grateful for it”. Marcelino García Toral has collected awards and signsplenty of affection over the last months. A trend that is very gratifying for the person behind the professional. On this occasion, the distinction came from the program ‘Veus Fé-Cé’ (Plaza Podcast), which honored the coach with the Veus 2022 Award. The award recognized his work at the helm of Valencia CF, which is still very present after more than three years of his departure from the club.

Paco Polit, director and presenter of ‘Veus Fé-Cé’, traveled to Gijón to present the award and, incidentally, have an extensive and interesting chat with Marcelino. The conversation was broken down for the audience in two parts.

In the first, he reviewed his time as a footballer, his initial stages on the bench“(“When Eloy (Olaya) told me that he was betting on me as coach of Sporting Gijón’s first team, I told him: ‘They’re going to kill you, huh?'”), his consolidation among the best coaches on the national scene… In short, his entire footballing life until 2018, at the end of his first season at Valencia CF. “Experience has told me that it is better to insist on what you believe in as a coach than to change,” said the Asturian coach with conviction. In the dialogue with Paco Polit, several names related to Valencia were protagonists. There was space for Dani Parejo, Mateu Alemany, Peter Lim, Pablo Longoria, Simone Zaza and Ferran Torres. There were also reflections based on Marcelino’s experience as an elite coach: “For us, human value is very important in a dressing room, not just talent. You have to live together for many months and you have to know how to respect and play for a team.
