The past few weeks have been key to Marcelino’s new project at Villarreal CF. The Asturian’s work – together with his coaching staff – with the squad has been brilliant in March. Three consecutive victories have provoked LaLiga to choose MGT as the best coach of the month.
Villarreal’s success in recent weeks (5-1 against Granada, 2-3 against Betis and 1-0 against Valencia) has allowed García Toral to surpass Xavi Hernández and Carlo Ancelotti in the vote (both have added two wins and a draw with their respective teams).
Marcelino succeeds Valverde, elected best coach in February. Only five coaches have received the award this season (the others are Ancelotti, Míchel and Simeone). The three consecutive victories (scoring nine goals and conceded four) have brought Villarreal closer to the European positions (they were 14th on the table when the man from Careñes took charge of the team in November).
