Marcelino García Toral

Marcelino to receive the Asturian Coaches Committee’s highest distinction

The Asturian coach will be honoured with the Gold and Diamond Badge

Marcelino García Toral will receive the Gold and Diamond Badge from the Asturian Football Coaches Committee, the highest distinction the organisation can award to a coach from the Principality of Asturias.

The award will be presented on 11 September at the Hotel Cristina in Noreña, during the celebration of Coaches’ Day. It represents another prestigious recognition of a career that began in Asturian football and has established Marcelino as one of the most highly regarded Spanish coaches of recent decades.

From his first steps in management with Lealtad, Marcelino has built an extensive career at the highest level. Sporting de Gijón, Recreativo de Huelva, Racing de Santander, Real Zaragoza, Sevilla, Villarreal, Valencia, Athletic Club and Olympique de Marseille have all formed part of a journey marked by promotions, European qualifications and trophies.

Beyond his sporting achievements, the Asturian Committee particularly wanted to recognise Marcelino’s strong connection with coaches from his home region and his willingness to share his knowledge and experience.

Juanjo Corujo, president of the Asturian Coaches Committee, highlighted his “total commitment to the Asturian committee”, describing him as a “privileged ambassador for coaches from the Principality” and praising the willingness shown by both Marcelino and his coaching staff to share their knowledge.

It is a particularly meaningful recognition for Marcelino, coming from his home region and from his fellow professionals. The Gold and Diamond Badge therefore joins the many honours he has received throughout a career that began in Asturias and which, more than two decades after reaching the highest level, continues to maintain a strong connection with Asturian football.
