Marcelino García Toral and fitness coach Ismael Fernández took part in a very special event at the Clarín Primary School in Gijón, where they joined pupils for the presentation of certificates as part of the Peer Tutoring Programme (TEI), an educational initiative aimed at preventing bullying and promoting teamwork, solidarity and empathy.
During the event, which brought together 93 pupils from the third and fifth years of primary school, Marcelino shared some of the lessons he has learned throughout his career in professional football, emphasising the importance of human relationships and respect for others.
“Human relationships are essential,” the Asturian coach stressed, adding that “living together is one of the most beautiful things in life, and friendship is priceless.” Through this message, he encouraged the children to communicate openly, support one another and build relationships based on trust.
Accustomed to managing dressing rooms at the highest level and working with elite footballers, Marcelino and Ismael explained to the pupils that the fundamental values of sport are equally important in everyday life. Solidarity, empathy and the ability to understand and help others are essential principles both on and off the pitch.
The visit also provided an opportunity to support the work of the TEI programme, which encourages cooperation between pupils of different ages to create safer school environments and prevent bullying.
It was a memorable occasion that allowed Marcelino to share his experience beyond football and reaffirm the importance of education in values as a fundamental tool for personal development and positive relationships with others.
