Marcelino García Toral

“I couldn’t work in those conditions”

Marcelino went on 'El Partidazo de COPE' to calmly explain his departure from Olympique de Marseille and his plans for the future.

“The ultras were asking to leave the club; that the president and the board of directors had to leave, and that if they didn’t, they would face the consequences. It was not possible to work under those conditions”. This is how, in a few words, Marcelino explained the reason for his departure from Olympique de Marseille. He did so on ‘El Partidazo de COPE’, in an interview with Juanma Castaño.

In a programme of reference on late night radio, for almost twenty minutes, García Toral spoke about various topics. The dialogue revolved around the end of his time in France and the options he is now considering for his future.

“There was a conversation with Sevilla, who are a great club, but the conditions were not right for this new project,” said Marcelino, who was looking for an offer that would go beyond this season. Despite what happened in Marseille, the Asturian coach is not closing the doors to working outside Spain again. On the contrary. “If a solvent and attractive project comes along, we’ll take it on. Last week I had an offer from Arabia, but it’s not within our perspective”, he admitted.

On the other hand, Juanma wanted to know what was true in the reports that placed the coach as a firm candidate to replace Luis Enrique after the World Cup in Qatar. “Rubiales never offered me the Spanish national team. My agent had conversations, but they were before the World Cup. But I never spoke to Rubiales or anyone from the federation,” he said.
